A Word about Watermarks on the Gallery Images

If you have already viewed some of my photo galleries, you may have noticed that the images have a visible watermark embedded. (This is the case only on the "public" website. For customers, once you log in, they are switched off.)

Why watermarks?

Because the simple truth is, that I/ we live from licensing rights to photo usages - not by giving them away.

The web makes it awfully easy to simply copy and re-use images elsewhere - without ever properly licensing them. Of course this is illegal.

High-quality Images

I believe I have high-quality images to offer. To safeguard against unauthorized use of my images, I opted for applying watermarks, even though I understand that this is controversial.

While I aimed at making the watermark somewhat unobtrusive, still it needs to be present and visible enough so that the image cannot be used.

A request for your understanding

It's not an easy decision, since it brings about visual noise for honest viewers, but I do hope for your understanding - and am open for your feedback.

Licensing Images

As a photographer I am of course interested that I can be contacted, for cases where images have been temporarily saved and which are to be used and licensed later. Metadata does not always remain intact in this process, but through the website address embedded in the image I can always be reached.

If you like particular images and want to use them: please simply contact me with your licensing request, or look at some of the images that are available for download from the stock agencies I work with.
